Dear CHAT Members,

1. Please see the message below about cancellation of the LRA Housing Task Force Meeting that was supposed to be held tomorrow, Monday.

2. Thanks to efforts of applicants, CHAT, GNOFAHC, Loyola Law Clinic, Rep. Waters, and others, help is promised for at least some Road Home applicants and at least some of the RH funds that the state talked about diverting out of the RH program won't be diverted.

As we understand it (check with RH, if you are in doubt), unfortunately, this won't help those who were unfairly reclassified as not eligible after originally being declared eligible.

 It does not address so many uncorrected RH mistakes that shortchanged applicants.

However, at least it should help many thousands of low-income applicants (if it is not full of many more empty promises couched in unpublicized restrictive rules as we are learning about the up to $30,000 or !00,000 HMGP grants).

Last month, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the federal stewards of the Road Home money, approved the state's plan to wipe away the cap and dedicate at least $550 million to filling remaining gaps. Families who receive the new grants will have six months after they receive the extra money to show state officials that they've either finished repairs or have building permits and contractors in place. ...
Stephens of the LRA said the state already knows who is eligible for what amount and the letters to families will explain how much they should get. She said grantees with questions should call the Road Home hotline at 888.762.3252.

Due to Hurricane Ida's landfall on the Southeast region of the state tomorrow, we will be rescheduling the Housing Taskforce to another date in the near future. Given the state of emergency declaration and the evacuation's in some parishes, it is out of concern for safety that we will cancel tomorrow. Our goal will be to reschedule this important meeting before the end of the year.
